The IEE Archives Summer Exhibition

The IEE Archives first mounted a major exhibition in the summer of 1993, celebrating the achievements of British scientists in the development of radar before and during World War II. The exhibition proved extremely successful and a tradition was born.

In 1994 the theme was transatlantic telecommunications, "From Sailing Ship to Satellite" and in 1995 the exhibition celebrated the centenary of the discovery of X-Rays with "A New Kind of Vision." 1996 marked a change in direction with a move from Savoy Place to the Science Museum. That summer's exhibition, "Selling Light", can still be seen on display in The Lighting Gallery. Building work at Savoy Place prevented the 1997 exhibition, but 1998 saw the IEE Archives back on display. 2LO Calling - The BBC at Savoy Place 1923-1932 commemorated the 75th anniversary of the BBC, the IEE's most illustrious tenants. In 1999 the exhibition "Secret Machines" looked at British code-breaking during World War II and the beginnings of computer technology.

The panels from all the exhibitions (except Selling Light) may be borrowed for temporary exhibition and brochures from Sailing Ship to Satellite, A New Kind of Vision, 2LO Calling and Secret Machines are still available.
